Today a friend of ours asked about Father God supposedly hating Esau.  He asked, “How can I answer this question…  Why was Esau hated?”

Here is my reply…

Esau was not hated by Father.  Esau was hated by devil god.  God is love.  He doesn’t hate anyone – it is an impossibility.  Because He doesn’t hate anyone, that is also why He will save the beast Leviathan when he eventually turns to Him (Isaiah 27:1,5).  Father hates evil works – but He doesn’t hate evil people.  He sent Jesus to die for all people, even while these people were enemies of His.  (Romans 5:10, Colossians 1:21)

Isaiah 27:1-5 NKJV In that day the LORD with His severe sword, great and strong, Will punish Leviathan the fleeing serpent, Leviathan that twisted serpent; And He will slay the reptile that is in the sea. … (5) Or let him take hold of My strength, That he may make peace with Me; And he shall make peace with Me.

If God was to hate evil people, wouldn’t Malchus be towards the top of the list?  He was one of the ones who came to arrest Jesus to lead Him away to be humiliated, tortured, and slowly murdered.  Yet Jesus healed him.

If God was to hate evil people, then surely the tip-top of the list would be the guys who scourged and murdered Jesus.  Yet after He was freshly beaten, striped, nailed, tortured, and in the process of dying, what did God-in-the-flesh (Jesus) do?  He prayed for His murderers and torturers.

If God was to hate evil people, then why did Jesus teach the opposite?  Jesus said that the perfection of Father was to love all people with action, even loving enemies, evil-doers, cursers, persecutors, etc.

Matthew 5:38-48 NKJV  “You have heard that it was said, ‘AN EYE FOR AN EYE AND A TOOTH FOR A TOOTH.’  (39)  But I tell you not to resist an evil person. But whoever slaps you on your right cheek, turn the other to him also.  (40)  If anyone wants to sue you and take away your tunic, let him have your cloak also.  (41)  And whoever compels you to go one mile, go with him two.  (42)  Give to him who asks you, and from him who wants to borrow from you do not turn away.  (43)  “You have heard that it was said, ‘YOU SHALL LOVE YOUR NEIGHBOR and hate your enemy.’  (44)  But I say to you, love your enemies, bless those who curse you, do good to those who hate you, and pray for those who spitefully use you and persecute you (45)  that you may be sons of your Father in heaven; for He makes His sun rise on the evil and on the good, and sends rain on the just and on the unjust.  (46)  For if you love those who love you, what reward have you? Do not even the tax collectors do the same?  (47)  And if you greet your brethren only, what do you do more than others? Do not even the tax collectors do so?  (48)  Therefore you shall be perfect, just as your Father in heaven is perfect.”  [The perfection Jesus described is loving the enemy vs. Yahweh who curses his enemies.]

Here’s the problem that we run into…  People think that the entire Bible is a perfect picture of God.  The Good God people are pretty enlightened about the Old Testament having issues, but many still think that the entire New Testament is perfect.  That isn’t true.  We need to remember that the Bible was written by 1st generation believers who were coming out of the OT belief system.  They did not get 100% correct.  You can see a lot of their error and wavering in the book of Acts, such as where they would rule against circumcision, then waver and get people circumcised, etc.  They were wavering in their beliefs and actions.  I don’t believe that any of the authors had 100% revelation about the evil agent in the OT, yet Holy Spirit left a strong bread crumb trail where we can discern the truth, whether or not the NT authors knew it or were themselves convinced.

Let me show you a blatant example of lack of discernment of God’s goodwill vs. the devil in the New Testament by Jesus’ very own brother.  You just read the passage above where Jesus expressed the will & action of Father to “make the sun rise on the evil and to send rain on the unjust.”  The will of Father is clear:  He wants even His enemies to be blessed and therefore He sends sun and rain even to the evil people.  Well what does James do in the NT?  James venerates Elijah as being a hero of faith because he stopped the rain for 3.5 years!  What?!  Stopping the rain to bring forth drought, hunger, and death is not the will of Father God!  That is the will of the devil!  Yet James has no clue and thinks Elijah to be righteous in this action.  Does it take great faith to stop the rain?  Absolutely.  But Elijah’s faith was used in an evil direction in direct opposition to Father God’s goodwill, yet James doesn’t even recognize this.

James 5:16-18 NKJV  Confess your trespasses to one another, and pray for one another, that you may be healed. The effective, fervent prayer of a righteous man avails much.  (17)  Elijah was a man with a nature like ours, and he prayed earnestly that it would not rain; and it did not rain on the land for three years and six months.  (18)  And he prayed again, and the heaven gave rain, and the earth produced its fruit.

Elijah’s first prayer action was in direct contradiction to the will of God that Jesus expressed to us!  Yet James thinks Elijah is a great example of a “righteous man who prays effectively & fervently.”  It is ungodly – it is evil – it is not righteous (do-right) – to pray into manifestation the will of the devil (drought) vs. the will of the Father (rain & fruit).  Elijah was working for the devil by operating faith in an evil direction to bring forth drought, famine, and death upon these people.  A righteous man in Father’s eyes would have blessed the enemy – not starved them to death for 3.5 years.

Likewise all the other authors of the NT have issues.  They did not have 100% revelation, yet they had much more truth than the OT.  Amen!  So when Paul was talking about God hating Esau, he was lacking discernment & clear understanding.  Just as James lacked discernment of truth and thought it righteous to stop the rain, so did Paul lack discernment by believing that Father would hate someone.  So also do all the NT authors who talk about God bringing forth death, destruction, or sickness… they also lack discernment of truth in those passages.

God bless you!
